Germany’s federal election on February 23 resulted in significant political shifts, with the center-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU) winning just over 28% of the vote. Notably, the far-right Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) made historic gains with 20.8%, while the left-wing Die Linke secured nearly 9%, its best result since 2017, with the highest support among voters aged 18-24. While the political center holds and Germany’s Brandmauer (firewall) against collaboration with the far right remains intact, the results highlight a polarized electorate. Join us on Thursday, March 13 (9:00 AM - 10:00 AM PT / 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM ET / 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM CET), where Thorsten Benner, Director of the Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) in Berlin, and Forum member Jeff Kwasi Klein, political innovator and advocate for societal transformation, will analyze the election results and their implications for democracy and belonging in Europe and beyond.
